Once the makeup comes off, the shoes are kicked into a corner and the venue empties out, one small step still closes the wedding beautifully: a thank you message to your guests. It is not a heavy obligation but a last chance to reach the people who came to celebrate you. A few warm lines on WhatsApp, maybe with a single photo from the ceremony, and the night keeps echoing for a few more days.

When to Send

The simple rule: between one day and one week after the wedding. The day after, while everyone is still recovering, a short heartfelt note lands perfectly. If you want to include professional shots, you will likely wait for the photographer, so a week to ten days is an excellent window.

  • A day or two after: a short general message, “thank you for being there,” even before any photos.
  • Within the week: the full message with a photo from the night, once you have the first frames from the photographer.
  • After the honeymoon: if you flew off immediately, open with a small line explaining the delay; it reads as personal rather than apologetic.

What really matters is not pushing it to next month. After four or five weeks guests have slipped back into routine, and the message will feel like a form rather than a feeling.

Personal vs Group

Each type of message has its place, and the blend between them is the winning formula. The group note saves time and gathers everyone around a shared moment; the personal one gives genuine attention to the people closest to you.

  • Group message: suited to the wider guest list, work colleagues and more distant acquaintances. Send it as a broadcast (not a group where everyone sees each other), with one nice photo.
  • Personal message: reserved for parents, grandparents, your best friends, and anyone who gave a generous gift or travelled far to be there. Here it is worth mentioning one small, specific detail from the night.

The same personal-versus-broad logic shaped the other side of the event, too. When you planned sending the invitations on WhatsApp you probably already split a general broadcast from personal messages, and that exact split works just as well for your thank-yous.

Adding a Photo, and Which One

One good photo is worth more than ten. Instead of flooding guests with an album, choose a single frame that tells the story of the night: a moment under the chuppah, a laugh on the dance floor, or a classic shot of the two of you. One vertical photo looks great on WhatsApp and will not get cropped.

  • Keep the file at a sensible resolution so it does not arrive as a heavy download.
  • If there is a funny photo with one particular friend, send it to them privately; it always earns a smile.
  • For the wider group, pick a flattering, general frame that everyone can connect to.

Thank you so much for being with us on the most important night of our lives. You danced, you sang and you filled the garden with love, and we are still smiling about it. Here is a little photo from under the chuppah, so you keep a piece of the night too. With love, Maya and Daniel.

Thanking for Gifts Gracefully

Most wedding gifts in Israel now arrive through Bit or PayBox, and sometimes still in an envelope. The thanks should be warm but tasteful: acknowledge the gesture and the presence, and never mention the sum.

  • Do not write “thank you for the 500 shekels” — it embarrasses both sides.
  • A line like “thank you so much for the lovely gift and for choosing to celebrate with us” covers everything.
  • For anyone who gave an especially generous gift, or made the trip from up north or down south, a separate personal note is worth it.
  • If someone could not attend but still sent a gift, a short personal message will touch them in particular.

Ready-to-Use Templates

Here are three templates in different tones. Take whatever fits, swap in names and details, and add a photo.

Warm, short group message:

What a night we had, and mostly thanks to you. Thank you for coming, for dancing and for giving us the happiest wedding we could have asked for. We love you, Maya and Jonathan.

Personal message for close ones:

Thank you for being there in every single moment, from the preparations to the last hour on the dance floor. We could not have imagined this night without you, and that means the world to us. Let’s meet up soon for more than a quick coffee. With so much love.

Message thanking for a gift:

Thank you so much for the lovely gift and for making the effort to come and celebrate with us. Your being there that night was a gift in itself, and we are truly grateful. Hugs, Shira and Omer.

One small tip: if you are sending the same message to dozens of people, at least swap the name in the opening. The difference between “hello” and “hey Dana” is the difference between a form and a gesture.

If you have not finalised every detail yet, or you are planning another event, you can start from the full guide to digital wedding invitations and see how it all connects, from the first invitation to the last thank-you.

We would love to be part of your next chapter too: pick the package that suits you, and message us on WhatsApp so we can design an invitation together that leaves an impression long before the night itself.
